What causes the corrugating roller to deform?

The corrugating roller is the "heart" of the single facer and one of the most expensive and vulnerable parts on the cardboard production line. Its economic performance and service life have always been an important topic of concern in the corrugated board industry.

When we repair and replace it, the most common problem is deformation. How is this caused?

1. Surface coating peeling off. The surface of the corrugating roller is usually sprayed with tungsten carbide coating. If the coating falls off, the corrugated roller will be easily deformed.

2. No regular replacement. Generally, the corrugating roller can produce about 20 million meters of corrugated board. If 50,000 meters of corrugated board are produced every day, grinding and repair will be required after about a year. The diameter of the corrugating roller after grinding is usually reduced by about 1.0mm, the coefficient of corrugation will increase, and the amount of base paper and adhesive will also increase. Long-term use will cause poor contact performance of the corrugating roller, resulting in high and low flutes and broken paper in the produced corrugated paper, affecting the production capacity of the entire production line.

3. Uneven heating. The corrugating roller works at a temperature of 160-180 degrees, so the temperature of the corrugating roller must be closely controlled. The traditional heating mode uses cavity heating, which has the disadvantage that condensed water will be deposited inside the roller. If it cannot be discharged in time and thoroughly (such as a faulty steam trap or improper selection), it will accumulate at the bottom of the roller cavity. In this way, the temperature of the accumulated water area is significantly lower than that of the steam area, resulting in uneven temperature along the circumferential and axial directions of the roller surface. Long-term operation can easily cause deformation of the corrugating roller.
